[ENG] I enjoy making films, video works, music and more, always together with other people, in search of meaningful connections. Often, I’m triggered by a gentle curiosity about people I love or collaborate with, and a persistent attempt to make films in a truly honest and playful way. I love mixing a documentary approach with contrasting genres, bringing myself into the frame, and re-enacting memories, trying to get closer to the complexity of all those contradicting feelings that sometimes exist at the same time. This has led me to work with opera and science fiction, and to put myself in uncomfortable situations, always fuelled by a strong pleasure in (co)creating, and a desire to understand each other better. By doing so, my films and video works become deeply personal and vulnerable, dealing with topics like loss and absence, familial history, love and affection, and personal archives.

[NL] Ik maak graag films, videowerk, muziek en veel meer, altijd samen met andere mensen, op zoek naar een betekenisvolle nabijheid. Vaak word ik gedreven door een zachte nieuwsgierigheid naar mensen van wie ik hou of met wie ik samenwerk, en een voortdurende poging om films te maken op een zo oprecht mogelijke en speelse manier. Ik hou ervan om een documentaireaanpak te combineren met contrasterende genres, mezelf in het beeld te plaatsen, herinneringen na te spelen, in een poging om dichter bij de complexiteit te komen van al die tegenstrijdige gevoelens die soms tegelijkertijd bestaan. Zo ben ik met opera en sciencefiction gaan werken, en soms plaats ik mezelf ik in ongemakkelijke situaties, altijd gedreven door het plezier in samen creëren en een verlangen om elkaar beter te begrijpen. Mijn films en videowerken worden daardoor vaak heel persoonlijk en kwetsbaar, en raken aan onderwerpen zoals verlies en afwezigheid, familiegeschiedenis, liefde en genegenheid, en persoonlijke archieven.

[ENG] Vita Soul Wilmering (1996) is a visual artist, filmmaker and musician. From 2019 to 2021, she was an artist in residence at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, and from 2024 to 2025 at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She studied audiovisual arts at KASK in Ghent and 'East' European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. She currently lives and works in The Hague, where she has a studio at Billytown. Starting her projects from a basis in documentary film, Vita often collaborates closely with other people, and integrates the creation process into the work itself. Using fictional or performative elements, she encourages people to shift between roles and reality in order to explore questions such as how one addresses personal and familial history or how we deal with loss and absence. Her work has been shown at film festivals including IFFR, DocLisboa, the Sarajevo Film Festival and Transitions, at the EYE Film Museum and in various exhibitions at Kunsthuis SYB, De Ateliers, Billytown, Galerie Block C, Marres and Prospects Art Rotterdam.

Van 2019 tot 2021 was ze artist in residence bij De Ateliers in Amsterdam en van 2024 tot 2025 bij het Cité Internationale des Arts in Parijs. Ze studeerde audiovisuele kunsten aan het KASK in Gent en 'Oost'-Europese Studies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Ze woont en werkt in Den Haag, waar ze een studio heeft bij Billytown. Vertrekkend vanuit een documentaire basis, werkt Vita vaak nauw samen met andere mensen om persoonlijke vraagstukken te onderzoeken, en daarbij het maakproces in het werk zelf te integreren. Met behulp van fictie-genres of performatieve elementen nodigt ze mensen uit om zich via een rol te verhouden tot de realiteit, en daarbij bloot te leggen hoe we omgaan met herinneringen, familegeschiedenis of verlies. Haar werk is te zien geweest op filmfestivals als IFFR, DocLisboa, het Sarajevo Film Festival en Transitions, in het EYE Filmmuseum en in diverse tentoonstellingen in Kunsthuis SYB, De Ateliers, Billytown, Galerie Block C, Marres en Prospects Art Rotterdam.
